BACKGROUND
I come from a family of 8. I grew up in Isingiro district located in Western Uganda. I went to boarding school for my primary education and I always looked forward to my holidays during which I'd help at the farm. My father is a peasant and my mother was a grade 3 teacher but she passed away in 2006. Since then life hasn't been the same because I had to work during holidays in order to take care of my basic needs. I later joined Immaculate heart girl's school, founded by sisters of our Lady of Good counsel for both my ordinary and advanced level education.
WHY Medicine & Health
I've always wanted to join the medical field even at a tender age, because I believe good health is paramount to the development and livelihood of people in the community. However, the deciding point for me was an incident in my highschool where my favourite teacher lost his life due to wrong drug prescription. This is because the different manufacturing companies make drugs with different percentages of different components. I'd therefore try to make a change in that area. National bureau of standards being my target, I'd make sure all drugs are correctly prescribed and all contraindications properly indicated before a drug is accepted to the market. This will reduce the risk of toxicity by medical drugs to people in the community. I see myself working in the analytics department of bureau of standards. I'm especially interested in the analysis of imported drugs in order to identify and quantify the different drug compositions. This will help us as a department, to determine whether they are safe for consumption by people in my country. I believe in teamwork because it is easier to finish up the work with minimum mistakes since the lives of many are at stake.
