BACKGROUND
I am Emmanuella Byera, a clinical medicine student at Kampala International University in Tanzania. My home is in Ngara in the Kagera region, coming from a family of six children; five boys and me, the only girl. We were brought up in good manner, since our parents have been very caring and responsible, and they have sent us to school, making sure we all get educated, until 2014, when we fell into a family crisis. My parents are peasants. Personally, I did well in my primary and secondary education, and passed with flying colors until 2017, when I was admitted for my university studies. From there, it has been difficult due to failure of paying my tuition fees in time. Nevertheless, I never came to a point of giving up - everyday gave me a reason to get started.
WHY
I chose the medical field because it'll give me a wide opportunity to treat and help people in early stages, in order to minimize mortality and disabilities that affect the whole community. This is what has inspired me most within medical field. I am aiming to become a good doctor, and also a lecturer, training young upcoming doctors to become well trained and disciplined. I also enjoy taking care of women and children affectionately. My dream is to become a paediatrician after completing my medical school in the future. This will help me climb within the health sector in Tanzania, enabling me to reach out to many people, including my family. My dream job is to be a doctor. As a medical personnel, punctuality, commitment, autonomy and accountability, are some of the values that give me a reason to become a doctor. I prefer putting other's interest above mine, when it comes to service for others. Saving people's lives is my priority. With these values and ethics of mine, my education as a doctor will become a benefit to the whole society. This is what I enjoy about medicine - it is all practical but creates effects of healing, comfort and peace to all people. One can not be happy or perform well while sick. A good health is more important than anything.
INTERESTS
I am interested in a couple of things. I like teaching youths to build up a sense of positive attitude, regardless the outside circumstances. I am also interested in swimming, playing netball, running marathons, reading literate books and cooking as well.
