BACKGROUND
I was born in Bugango village, in the Isingiro district in western Uganda. I belong to a family of eight children in which I am the first born. Our father passed away and we have a single mother, and I can say she is the best mother. Despite all the challenges we have encountered as a family, our mother has been there for us. She has taught us to live for others, respect them, work hard and look up to God. She has taught us to grow crops of all kinds, using her local knowledge, and simple tools. My education background is good, because I have always liked to study and to learn new things in order to widen my understanding and improve my family and the community as well.
WHY
With my community being a peasantry one, I have been inspired to offer a program that can improve agriculture in my family and the community as well, by working as an extension worker. I chose this profession because it provides me with much knowledge on how to improve people's lives. I also enjoy this field as I like being there for others. This program has improved my skills on how to interact with people like farmers, and that is why I like it so much. First of all, I want to become an agricultural extension worker, so that I can improve people's lives through teaching better methods of farming, and encourage them to form cooperatives in order to easily access services from the government and other non-governmental organizations, that support farmers. After a period of three years in the field, I will go for further studies so that I can become a lecturer and a researcher as well. I even have plans of setting up a research center so that I can produce improved crop and animal breeds that are resistant to the changing climate, diseases and pests.
INTERESTS
During my free time, I like to read documentaries in line with my program as I enjoy research. I want to know more about modern farming and how it can be done on a small land. I also like to make bracelets out of beads, and teach myself new designs. And, I like participating in sports; for instance playing netball. Lastly, I like spending time with people where I can share ideas and opinions.
