BACKGROUND
My name is Petronella Charity Anjoah. I was born in Adjumani district, and I am Madi by tribe. The foundation of my family is Jesus Christ. I am the youngest of three daughters, we are all in the church choir. I lost my father when I was seven years old. My mother is a clinical officer working at a children’s home. She is the eldest in her family. As such, I grew up in a large family of up to eighteen people most of the time. Despite the difficulties that came with this, I learned that family is strength.
WHY Medicine & Health
Being a doctor is my childhood dream, and I believe it is God’s purpose for me. I grew up in a community where people with congenital anomalies are stigmatized and often considered a result of witchcraft. These people are abandoned, rejected, and others killed at infancy. Families are broken. It therefore became my goal to find a solution for this, and making it to medical school is a chance. I dream to build a children’s hospital that focuses on doing affordable corrective surgery for children with congenital anomalies. I also hope reach communities and sensitize them about this issue.
INTERESTS
I love music, especially Christian bands like Jesus Culture. I sing in a choir. I love to read, debate. I enjoy writing plays and acting, designing clothes, traveling and photography.
