BACKGROUND
I grew up in a family of ten members in Eastern Uganda were my dad was a primary school teacher who retired in 2015 and my mother is a peasant. I studied my primary in a government school where I got a first grade. Because of this, I was given a half bursary to study lower secondary and later another half bursary after getting a first grade for my upper secondary. I failed to join university for medicine on the government merit and was given this coarse on private. Despite being the fourth born, I am the only person who has reached a university level education in my family. My three elder siblings dropped out of school and married while my three of my younger siblings are still in school.
WHY Medicine & Health
Through learning first aid during my scouting training where I could at least save some lives with little medical knowledge, I was motivated to study medicine so that I can expand knowledge in medicine and save more people with different medical conditions. The other inspirational reason is the fact that most people who visit a government hospital in Uganda rarely have a chance to be seen by a doctor in a rural setting. I was challenged to study medicine and impact change in these rural areas. My dream job is working in a self founded hospital in a rural setting with team based care to keep the population in good health. It should be organized and purposeful where all staff must be moving towards a common goal. The hospital should also have good diagnostic and treatment equipment to effectively diagnose and treat people at affordable prices to reduce expenses on their medical care.
INTERESTS
I like playing with children, teaching my community about good health practices and swimming.

I contributed towards an outreach of visiting and donating to needy children in our community in addition to actively participating in community cleaning and education about good hygiene. I was in the essential surgical skill laboratory learning how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a mannequin.

What kind of community outreach activity are you planning to do this semester? I plan to participate in a group organized awareness seminar in which we will inform needy female students at the University about help to help and encourage them to apply. Together with some fellow changermakers, we plan to conduct this activity at the University premises on 29th of May 2021 What worries you in the world and what can you do to change that? Am surely worried about the impending development of antimicrobial resistant organisms mostly in African countries despite the facilitatory activities which are not only among the community through self prescription, under treatment, use of antimicrobials to increase agricultural productivity among others but also due to health workers' behaviors of over prescription of antimicrobial agents. Increasing awareness primarily among healthcare workers who can then form a wide network for creating awareness among community members to complete their prescribed medicines, avoid self prescriptions and reserve use of antimicrobial agents to only necessary conditions Am part of the antimicrobial resistance campaign team in my university were we organize awareness seminars among fellow medical students, educate non medical students about facilitatory behaviors and also do community outreaches to educate community members about how the problem can be avoided.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How can I trust Richard Mugoya is a real student?

A: Richard Mugoya has applied for a scholarship from Help to Help and was granted one. We have reviewed the written application and conducted a thorough interview with Richard Mugoya . We have also double-checked the given identity with Mbarara University. We now and then also do home-visits and met with a majority of our students.

Q: If I donate, what happens with my donation?

A: Each semester, Help to Help pay school fees for our students. We reserve the right to only pay school fees for students who live up to the agreed terms and conditions for the scholarship which includes submitting grades in time, good academic perform and continuous communication with Help to Help among other things. The payments are done directly to each university. Once payments are done, we demand the universities to send us official receipts.

Q: Why does each student have their own fundraising profile?

A: We believe in a global "we" - our crowdfunding platform is a way for our students to express what societal issues they want to bring change to, and a way for our funders to learn and join their important causes by donating to their studies.
