Traditional aid is based on the concept that if someone is ill, a doctor will be sent. If a doctor is sent to work for a few months, that person will be able to treat a few hundred people. However, a local doctor can treat thousands during his or her professional life. Our research shows 80 % of our graduated students increase the family income and 60 % pays school fees for atleast one sibling. Through crowdfunding, Help to Help enables scholarships to university students in East Africa. Students who otherwise would not get the opportunity to study.

We call this the Help to Help-effect.

OUR STUDENTS' JOURNEY

1. SELECTION
Students who have difficulty to financially afford school tuition fees apply for scholarships at Help to Help. Based on a requirements profile, we make a careful selection.
2. FUNDING
Our selected scholarship recipients present themselves with their profile on our website. Private individuals and companies choose to contribute to the school tuition fees for individual students or fields of education.
3. STUDIES
The students study and communicate frequently on our website, so that everyone can follow them in their progress at school and during their time in internships.
4. NETWORK
The students participate in our training programs and our network. In this way they are preparing themselves for their life in the working world.
5. GRADUATION
Depending on which field the students choose to study they graduate after 3-5 years. Now they can move on to make a change.
6. WORK
Our newly graduated changemakers start working. They are able to support themselves, their families and contribute to their community.

Malin Cronqvist founded Help to Help in 2010.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

In 2010, Help to Help’s founder Malin Cronqvist was doing volontaire work in Tanzania. During her stay, Malin began to wonder if there wasn’t a fundamental problem with the way traditional aid works.

If someone is ill, we send out doctors. If someone is hungry, we send food. What would happen, if we didn’t send anything at all?

On site in Tanzania, Malin saw enormous potential in the country, but especially so in the individuals who had become her friends - young adults who now had an uncertain future ahead of them. Everyone had big dreams and visions for themselves and how they wanted to change Tanzania.
But there was one big problem - how to afford the school tuition fees for further studies of higher education. From Sweden, Malin was indignant over scandals and money swindling in the development assistance industry. That is when she decided to build an organization based on transparency and self-help, with long-term societal effects as the goal.

Help to Help’s acclaimed crowdfunding concept was launched in early 2014 as part of our ambition to make it easier to contribute, as well as making it a more intimate and personalized experience. So far, Help to Help has enabled education for 208 students in Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya, 60 of which have graduated.
